3 days in Langkawi: an easy itinerary
How to spend three days in Langkawi: the SkyCab and Sky Bridge, a mangrove boat tour, island-hopping and beach sunsets, with tips on getting around.

Three days is a good amount of time to see the best of Langkawi without rushing. This plan mixes the big sights with plenty of beach time, and assumes you’re staying near Pantai Cenang and renting a car (or using Grab).
Day 1: SkyCab, waterfalls and sunset
Morning. Head to Oriental Village at Machinchang for the SkyCab cable car, one of the steepest in the world. At the top, walk out onto the curved Sky Bridge hanging over the rainforest. Go early, before the queues and the clouds roll in. The cable car can close in bad weather or for maintenance, so check before you go.

Evening. Back to Pantai Cenang for a swim and sunset on the beach, then dinner at one of the many restaurants along the main road.
Day 2: Mangroves and the north coast
Morning. Take a boat tour through the Kilim Geoforest Park, a maze of mangrove channels between limestone cliffs. Tours usually include a bat cave, a floating fish farm and plenty of wildlife spotting: look for monkeys, monitor lizards, kingfishers and eagles.
Afternoon. Relax at Tanjung Rhu, a quieter beach on the north coast with views of limestone islets. Then drive up Gunung Raya, Langkawi’s highest peak, for views across the island (the road is steep and winding).
Evening. Find the night market. It moves to a different part of the island each night, so ask your hotel where it is.
Day 3: Island-hopping and Kuah
Morning. Join an island-hopping boat trip from Pantai Cenang or Kuah. Typical stops include Pulau Dayang Bunting, with its freshwater Lake of the Pregnant Maiden, and Pulau Beras Basah for a swim on a white-sand beach. Some tours include eagle feeding, which conservationists discourage because it disrupts natural behaviour. You’ll still see plenty of eagles without it.
Afternoon. Head to Kuah town. See Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) and its giant eagle statue, then browse the duty-free shops for chocolate, cookware and more.
Evening. A final sunset back at the beach.
Where to stay
Pantai Cenang is the most convenient base, with lots of food and places to stay. Pantai Tengah next door is quieter. For a resort stay, look at the north coast or Datai Bay.
